Most exciting sports time of the year

Posted in Sports at 8:18 pm

I would argue that this is the most exciting sports time of the year. The opening day of baseball just around the corner (although I have some mixed feelings about baseball this year) and the anticipation of the NCAA basketball tournament.

Opinions?

How about them Buckeyes!!

Posted in Sports at 7:55 pm

Wow! Even before today’s win over number 1 ranked Illinois, I’ve been very proud of the Ohio State men’s basketball team. But what a game! I’ve been telling folks for weeks to mark their calendars for March 6th, national television, undefeated Illinois against Ohio State, at Columbus!

Thad Matta is exactly what that team needed and now with a new AD coming in, things are looking up for Buckeye sports.

Go Bucks!

Quote:
Matta was asked if the victory over Illinois makes his team’s postseason ban even more difficult to accept.

“Yeah. I thought we could win the national championship,” he joked. “And nobody’s ever going to know.”

Dynasty?!?!

Props to the Patriots and in my opinion, especially to Bill Belichick. That man makes more out of relative nobodys because he gets them to buy into the system.

It sure has been a good year for the Chowder Heads.

I do think McNabb choked, mostly in the last 3 minutes. There was no management of the clock or any sense of urgency. The Eagles wasted a lot of time.

And as much as I dislike the guy, props to T.O. He came ready to play.

NFL Playoffs

Posted in Sports at 3:21 pm

And so they have begun…the NFL playoffs. I meant to get this out before the weekend along with the corresponding poll.

Some thoughts:
– The Colts are the Pats bitches…again.
– Atlanta is finally getting their props
– Vikings choke again
– Big Ben had some bumps, but still finds a way to win.
– TO who?

Thanksgiving Day at Texas stadium

Posted in Sports at 8:56 pm

Been busy lately, but aren’t we all…

Being a life-long Dallas Cowboy fan, I’ve always wanted to attend a Turkey Day game and this year, thanks to a lot of people, I got the chance. What a great experience and the Cowboys even won!

A few observations:
– Best nachos I’ve had ANYWHERE
– The stadium is in bad shape. Can’t really tell from TV, but in person, it’s junky. Glad they’re getting a new stadium.
– However, there really isn’t a bad seat in there
– Those people know how to entertain

Still in shock…

Posted in Sports at 5:30 pm

Wow! Anyone who knows me knows I’m a Yankee fan. After last night’s performance by my beloved Bronx Bums who appeared to have no heart after losing game 4, I for the first time ever, am totally ashamed of my team.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so hard to swallow if it had been to ANY other team than Boston.

Anyway, I never much believed in “The Curse of the Bambino”, but it is surely dead now…RIP.

And to Brian Cashman…quit wasting $$ on big bats that go silent when it really counts…get us some damn left-handed pitching!!!

Baseball playoffs!!

Posted in Sports at 8:19 pm

Say what you will about the baseball regular season, but now it’s time for the playoffs!!!

Given the recent success of the wild card teams, who do you think is going to win the World Series?

The Olympics

Posted in Sports at 3:30 am

Wow! I flat out love the Olympic Games! Summer, Winter…doesn’t matter. Besides the events, there is always the stories of the athletes. Those who have overcome incredible odds and extraordinary circumstances to be competing with the best in the world.

But the games are not without their faults. Here are some of the things that are right with the Olympics and and in my opinion, wrong with the Olympics.

Right:
– Greece : such history, tradition and the fans are amazing
– Michael Phelps : simply incredible performance
– Iraq soccer : something for them to cheer about
– Women’s softball : dominant
– Paul Hamm, Courtney Patterson : although not without controversy, tremendous displays of tenacity and never quit attitude

Wrong:
– Men’s basketball : over-hyped, cry babies
– Banned substances : several infractions, disgraceful
– Men’s 100 : totally disrespectful to the sport, especially the Americans

Your thoughts?

Baseball trades

Posted in Sports at 9:33 pm

Don’t you just love the trade deadlines and the flurry of activity it brings!?!?

So, who won and who lost with these trades?

Personally I feel very sorry for the Dodgers. (Sorry Mike) They were doing so well. They maybe needed another arm, certainly didn’t need to unload LoDuca if they were serious about winning a championship. Maybe it will work out.

Thoughts?

Quite a Christmas present here: Shaq v. Kobe

As much as we gripe about scheduling, here’s one for the fans.
